About PA4E1

We are excited to introduce you to Physical Activity for Everyone (PA4E1), an innovative and evidence-based physical activity program specifically designed for high schools. PA4E1 is a whole-school program designed to enhance student health and wellbeing. Our expert team at Hunter New England Population Health are collaborating with schools to integrate PA4E1 seamlessly into their existing frameworks.

How much physical activity is recommended for adolescents?

It is recommended that adolescents do at least 60-minutes each day of moderate to vigorous physical activity (Australian Government, 2021; WHO, 2022). However, research shows that 81% of adolescents do not meet the physical activity recommendations globally (WHO, 2022).

What are the benefits for adolescents who participate in physical activity?

Engaging in physical activity offers numerous benefits, and the PA4E1 program has been proven to enhance physical activity levels among adolescents. For students, these benefits include:

  1. Improved Physical Health: Regular physical activity enhances cardiovascular health and improves overall fitness.
  2. Enhanced Mental Well-being: Engaging in physical activity can reduce stress, anxiety, and depression, leading to better mental health and emotional resilience.
  3. Academic Performance: Studies show that physical activity can boost concentration, memory, and classroom behaviour, contributing to improved academic outcomes.
  4. Social Skills Development: Participation in group activities fosters teamwork, communication, and leadership skills, enhancing social interactions.
  5. Lifelong Habits: By encouraging regular exercise, the program helps instil a lifelong appreciation for physical activity, promoting healthier lifestyles beyond school (WHO, 2022).

Ways to be active with your teen

Physical activity doesn't have to be limited to the school setting. You can play a vital role in supporting PA4E1 at home, and even join in on the program yourself.

We understand that time constraints and costs can be significant barriers, but it's important to remember that every bit of movement counts. Incorporating physical activity into your daily routine can be both simple and low-cost. For instance, walking or biking to the shops or school are easy ways to stay active. Remember, even small amounts of physical activity can add up throughout the day!
